Article Structure

The Detroit Tigers have a longstanding commitment to supporting the community, particularly those organizations that focus on children from low to moderate-income families. For many years, they have opened the doors of Comerica Park to deserving groups through their Donation Request program, allowing fans young and old to experience the thrill of Tigers Baseball. This program enables charitable organizations to request tickets for various community initiatives, providing joyful moments for those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend a game. However, the use of these tickets is strictly regulated; they cannot be used for fundraising activities, giveaways, or any commercial purposes. Organizations interested in obtaining tickets must submit a written request at least five weeks in advance of the intended game date, accompanied by specific documentation. This includes a letter that outlines the mission of the organization, how the tickets will be used, and the distribution plan for ticket recipients. Additionally, organizations must provide their 501(c)(3) certification along with a completed Ticket Donation Request Form. Each request is carefully reviewed, and incomplete submissions will not be accepted. Once approved, the donated tickets are mailed out about a week before the game, making the anticipation of a Tigers game accessible to the community. The structure of the form itself is designed to ensure accountability and transparency, emphasizing the importance of using the tickets for the intended community benefit. This initiative underscores the Detroit Tigers' goal to come together with local organizations to foster a love for baseball and community spirit.

The intent is to allow these groups the opportunity to experience the excitement of a game at Comerica Park.

Who is eligible to request tickets?

To be eligible for a ticket donation, a charitable organization must submit a written request accompanied by three essential documents. These include a letter on the organization’s letterhead detailing its mission, the proposed use for the tickets, and a distribution plan. Furthermore, a copy of the organization’s 501(c)(3) form, along with its tax-exempt identification number, must be provided. It is important to submit all documents together, as incomplete requests will not be considered for donation.

How should one submit a ticket donation request?

Requests can be submitted in writing either by mail or email. To submit by mail, documents should be sent to the Detroit Tigers Foundation at 2100 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201. For email submissions, ensure that all documents are attached in PDF format and sent to Tigers.TicketDonations@tigers.com. The organization emphasizes that these tickets are intended solely for the enjoyment of the designated group members and should not be distributed in a manner that seeks any value or consideration in return. Common mistakes

Filling out the Detroit Tigers Donation Request form can be straightforward, but several common mistakes can lead to denial of your request. One of the most frequent errors is forgetting to include all required documentation. The form explicitly states that a letter on organizational letterhead, a copy of the 501(c)(3) form, and the completed request form must be submitted together. If even one document is missing, the entire request may be discarded.

Another mistake is not adhering to the timeline for submission. Requests must be sent at least five weeks prior to the game date you wish to attend. Many people fail to plan ahead, which leaves them scrambling at the last minute, leading to late submissions. Once the deadline passes, your organization will have to wait for future opportunities.

Many individuals also overlook the importance of using organizational letterhead. Submitting your letter on regular paper diminishes the formality and may lead the Tigers to question the legitimacy of your organization. It’s vital to maintain professionalism in your application.

Specificity in the mission and goals description is crucial. A vague statement may not convey the organization’s purpose clearly, which could lead to rejection. Take time to articulate the objectives clearly and concisely.

Additionally, people often miscalculate the total number of tickets requested. Organizations may underestimate how many tickets they truly need, which can impact attendance and planned activities. Alternatively, overestimating could lead to a denial if the request exceeds availability.

A common oversight is failing to choose a range of game dates as instructed. The form requests four alternative game dates, including at least one Monday to Thursday option. By not following this guideline, you limit the chances of receiving the tickets you desire.

It's essential also to clarify whether the organization will provide transportation. Incomplete answers in sections like this can result in confusion, leading to delays or disqualification from receiving tickets.

Another mistake is neglecting to indicate preferences for printed or digital tickets. Stating your preference clearly helps ensure that your request aligns with the Tigers' available ticketing methods.

People frequently forget to sign and date the form. A signature is a commitment on behalf of the organization and confirms the intended use of the tickets. Without this, the form is incomplete and cannot be processed.

Finally, organizations sometimes fail to read the full instructions and policy details. Ticket donations are strictly designated for community use and cannot be used for auctions or fundraising purposes. Ignoring this provision may lead to requests being denied outright.
