Do You Have to Register a Trailer in Georgia?
Yes, the state requires that all trailers are registered. There are different timeframes given for this procedure, such as:
- If you are a new resident of Georgia, you are required to register your trailer within 30 days from the date you move to the
- If you purchase a trailer from an individual, you have seven days to register it.
- If you purchase your trailer from the dealer, you have 30 days to register the vehicle.
Please note that the dealer may submit necessary documents for registration instead of you to do you a favor, but the one is not required to do it by law. If you fail to register your trailer within the given timeframe, you will have to pay a fine of up to $100.
Also, if you purchase or transfer ownership of a trailer, you must immediately apply for your title and receive or transfer a Georgia license plate. A Georgia title is required for 1986 and newer year model travel trailers weighing 2,001 pounds or more.
